Yruama is a multi-instrumental solo artist based out of Texas, but originally from Mexico. He has been writing and recording music since he was fifteen.

Tell us about yourself? Who is Yruama?

The music I make comes from a place of having a split identity since I moved to the US at a very formative age, fifteen. Therefore, I’ve written songs in Spanish and English reflecting this split of cultures. I know I’m still finding a unique identity from an artistic standpoint, but I wouldn’t want this merge to be the sole factor that describes everything about me, so it’s a work in progress.

What is your favourite food and why?

Conchas because they’re the epitome of a perfect balance between sweetness, butteriness, and puffiness. Maybe I can go ahead and say that I aspire my music to be like a concha with the descriptions above. Google conchas if you don't know what they are.

What is your favourite colour and why?

Royal Blue, but I don’t really know why. It just looks so peaceful and beautiful. Imagine a room full of blue walls. I’d feel pretty relaxed in there. Maybe I’d get overwheled after a while, but it’s okie.

Apart from music, what other hobbies do you have?

I am learning how to roller skate at the moment, but I also like taking pictures, drawing and painting.

How long have you been making music? What made you start?

Since I was fifteen years old. I always wanted to have a band ever since I got a drum set as a present for Christmas, but I started recording all the instruments myself since I was never able to find anybody as serious to make music as myself when I was fifteen.

What are your biggest musical influences?

The war on drugs, Interpol, Deerhunter, and sometimes movies inspire me a lot too.

What’s your music-making process? What sparks your creativity?

Every day I sit and try to write something. Even if nothing comes out. I think inspiration comes from sitting down every day and making it happen rather than waiting for inspiration to come to you. I got that from a poster that a professor in art school put outside his office.

What have you been listening to recently?

I’ve been listening to a lot of Iggy Pop. I like his stage presence and I hope to have a similar stage presence in terms of entertainment value. I’ve been grabbing inspiration from him for my next project hehe

Talk to us about your latest album release “FRESco”

My latest release is a compilation of songs that I wrote during the quarantine, and a friend had told me that they had a ‘’Fresco” sound. Which means fresh in Spanish. He said this because they all have this popish vibe that was new in my music and I agreed. When the time came to come down with a concept for the EP, I decided to go with this vintage Mexican esoteric soap vibe for the visuals because I think they’re really cool, and more intricate things that I can tell you about if you go to an Yruama concert.

What’s your favorite song of this release?

“Man and the Moon” is my favorite because it has a lot of layers and details that I enjoyed a lot coming up with. Plus, I think the guitar solo came out epic.

What are your goals as a musician? What are you striving to achieve?

To the mooooooooon. Just kidding, I’d like to live til I’m eighty-five, and still be making music by then. That’s my goal. But also, If I can buy a house and have my own studio to come home to, then I’d be the happiest. Everything else is secondary in my opinion.

Where can we listen to more of your music?

Right here (:
